Felting Supplies

Felting is a process that turns natural fibers, usually 100% wool, into a dense matted fabric. You may have felted before if you've ever accidently washed and dried a wool sweater and had it shrink. Felting on a very basic level is doing the same thing on purpose using a more methodical, controlled, step-by step method. There are several ways to create felted items. First you can knit or crochet an item with 100% natural fiber such as wool, then use heat, pressure and moisture in the felting process to turn that item into a felted item. We carry several books and kits that teach you the exact process for a particular item. The other way uses barbed needles on wool fibers to create felt. The wool fibers have scales that entangle when they are rubbed together. The needles are moved up and down through the wool fiber entangling the wool, creating felt. Felting is making a strong comeback and is becoming increasingly popular. There are more and more felting books, felting patterns, and felting kits available. Many crafters are enjoying the stronger felted material to make such things as slippers, gloves, purses, hats and more. Make sure you check out our felting kits and felting books for more information on this exciting craft.
